Open Enrollment is here!!!Open enrollment happens one time a year. This is the time of year ALL Medicare beneficiaries should review their health insurance and prescription drug plans. Why should you review your insurance options every year? The plans can change from year to year. The plans can change their doctor and hospital networks every year, they can change what drugs they cover, the cost of drugs and what their preferred pharmacies are. All of these factors can affect you greatly!!
Please avoid these potential problems by reviewing your Medicare health insurance options during the open enrollment period. SHINE is here to help! Call SHINE for unbiased, free assistance.
How do I compare drug plan and health plan costs?
DIY (Do It Yourself): go to www.medicare.gov. Use the Medicare plan finder to determine the cost of health plans and or drug plans. The Medicare plan finder walks you through finding the cost of plans following a step by step process. At the Medicare homepage there are three green tabs, the green tab on the left says “find health or drug plans” this is the start of the plan finder tool. Just fill in your information and in the end the program will sort the plans in order from least expensive to most and gives you all the plan costs and restrictions.
SHINE: compares Medicare drug plan costs for you and send you a printout of the three least expensive plans for your medications. If you decide to enroll into one of the three plans you can do so by:
1. Calling the plan directly and enrolling.
2. Enrolling online into the plan of your choice.
3. Calling Medicare and Medicare will enroll you in the plan of your choice.
4. Calling SHINE and SHINE will enroll you into the plan of your choice.
Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences: compares Medicare drug plan costs for you and send you a printout of the three least expensive plans for your medications. Enrolling in the plan is the same as mentioned above.
Medicare: call Medicare with a list of your medications and Medicare will sort the plans for you as well and will enroll you as well. Make sure to ask Medicare about possible medication restrictions.
